Specifications

Pros

• The 6.52-inch display provides a large viewing area for calls, messaging, browsing, and basic entertainment.
• The 4,000mAh battery offers useful endurance for an entry-level smartphone with modest hardware.
• Android 14 Go edition is optimized for low-memory devices and helps keep the experience manageable with 2GB of RAM.
• microSD support up to 128GB gives users useful additional storage beyond the built-in 32GB.
• IP52 protection provides some resistance against dust and water splashes for everyday use.
• The 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, USB-C, 4G, Wi-Fi, and GPS provide practical connectivity and entertainment features at this price level.

Cons

• The 576 × 1280 display resolution is relatively low and does not deliver the sharpness available from many newer budget smartphones.
• The Unisoc SC9832E with 2GB RAM is designed for basic tasks and is not suitable for demanding gaming or intensive multitasking.
• The 8MP rear and 5MP front cameras are adequate for basic photography but offer limited imaging capability.
• 10W charging is slow compared with many competing entry-level smartphones.
• The 32GB internal storage can fill quickly, making microSD expansion particularly important for users who install many apps or store media.

Verdict

The HMD Key is a basic entry-level smartphone aimed at buyers who need essential communication, browsing, and Android functionality at a low price. Its large display, 4,000mAh battery, 4G connectivity, microSD expansion, and Android Go software make it practical for calls, messaging, light browsing, and everyday apps.

However, its low-resolution display, 2GB RAM, modest processor, 32GB storage, basic cameras, and slow 10W charging clearly limit its capabilities.

Alternative Handset

If the HMD Key does not quite meet your needs, you have several affordable alternatives available at Gshoppe Kenya. The Redmi A7 4G is a practical choice if you want a large display and straightforward everyday performance.

The Infinix Smart 20 gives you a smoother display, stronger battery capacity, and more storage for apps, photos, and entertainment. If 5G connectivity matters to you, the Samsung Galaxy M06 5G offers a clear advantage alongside Samsung’s familiar software experience.

The Realme Note 70 4G is a better fit if long battery life is your priority, while the Itel City 200 offers the strongest overall hardware package, with a more capable camera, generous storage, and faster charging. These alternatives let you choose based on what matters most to you, whether that is battery life, display quality, connectivity, storage, camera capability, or overall value.
